We’re excited to announce that the new StatsWales open data service is now live and ready for you to explore.
Darllenwch y dudalen hon yn Gymraeg
This is a significant step forward in how we provide access to official statistics for Wales. The new service offers a more modern, flexible, and user-friendly way to find, use, and share Welsh data. Whether you’re a regular StatsWales user or just starting out, we hope you’ll find the new platform easier to navigate and more responsive to your needs.
What to expect from a “beta” service
You’ll notice that the new StatsWales is labelled as a “beta” service. This means it’s a work in progress: the core features are in place, but we know there’s more to do. We’re releasing it now so you can start using it, and – crucially – so we can learn from your feedback. We’ve done lots of testing but there may still be the occasional rough edge or something that doesn’t work quite as expected. If you find something, let us know.
Accessibility and API features
We’re proud that the new StatsWales meets modern accessibility standards, ensuring that everyone can use the service with confidence. We’ve also introduced an open API, allowing users to connect directly to datasets for use in dashboards, analysis tools or custom applications. Guidance is available to help you get started, and we’ll continue to expand support over time.
Transition from the old service
The old StatsWales service will remain available until January. However, from today, all new and updated datasets will only be published on the new service. We’ll be gradually migrating existing datasets across over the coming months. If you rely on a particular dataset, you’ll still be able to access it on the old site for now, but keep an eye out for updates as we move things over.
What comes next
Launching the new service is just the beginning. Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be closely monitoring how you use the site and listening to your feedback. We’re committed to making improvements and adjustments based on what we learn. If you spot something that could be better, or if you have suggestions for new features, please get in touch.
We’re also working on a plan to redirect old StatsWales URLs to the new service as datasets are updated and moved across. This should help minimise disruption and make it easier to find the data you need, even as things change.
Thank you
Thank you for your support as we make this transition. We’re genuinely excited about the opportunities the new StatsWales service brings, and we look forward to working with you to make it even better.
If you have any questions, comments, or feedback, please let us know. Your input will help shape the future of open data in Wales.
